TOSHIBA TECRA M5 - black screen starting X - startx

Can anyone advise if NVidia Supports this Notebook on Linux Red Hat 9 kernel 2.4

Model: TOSHIBA TECRA M5 - Model: PTM51A-0EJ007

We are having trouble getting X Windows to work. We get a black / blank screen when we try to run the startx command. The system just appears to hang. The onboard video card is NVidia NVS 110. The Notebook PC is brand new and uses a PCIe video chipset.

Checking the log file from nvidia-bug-report-sh I note near the bottom it indicates that "nvidia-settings could not connect to an X server"

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks,
David

Redhat 9 and kernel 2.4 are too old. You might find the "nv" driver works.

Ahh thanks. I have had no luck so far. Tried 4 different drivers. Perhaps I may have to upgrade to RedHat enterprise.
