After new driver install, modelines don't work

I can only deduct that it is the new driver, since I've already tried everything, like pasting the backup of /etc/X11/xorg.conf, reconfiguring with the automated tool, and making new modelines. No modelines work now, and in my resolutions list I get a mess of numbers that don't make sense. I see a lot of resolutions now, but most of them don't show the right refresh rate. For example, 640x480@55 is in reality @60. This monitor can't even go that low. And like I said, this wouldn't be much of a problem if everything else worked. I just mentioned all that in hopes that the problem can be better diagnosed. Please tell me, how can I bring modelines back?

Please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 6

and then generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

Could I email it somewhere? The file is too large to attach here.

And would it cause any problem to downgrade to the prior version? That is, would the installer be able to handle removing the new one?

Compress the bug report and you can attach it here (as others have done).

Ah right, I flaked...

Anyways here is the worst suffering one. Both PCs I installed this driver on have the problem, but this one is the worst. Even the default mode on the gui is marked wrong.

Btw, the problem sticks with the kernel until it's rebooted. Even if the driver is disabled to the open one and X is restarted the problem persists. I'm rolling back to 8776 for now.

The first half of the bug report is seemingly missing from the bug report that you attached. Also, there are no modelines in your xorg.conf. According to the X log in the bug report, X is running at 1280x1024, which is the first mode you requested. I don't think I understand the problem that you're reporting.

Ah, sorry. That wasn't the right file, I'm out of it :captnkill: I've been trying so much stuff that I lost track of what I was doing This is the right one and notice the just one modeline which I put in just to test.

You're not requesting the modeline you created in the latest bug report.

Re: After new driver install, modelines don't work

The effect would be identical minus the print out of the modelines in the xorg.conf file. And I am certain it is the new driver. I installed over with the previous one and everything is like before. I have 20+ modelines and they all work including the one on this bug report. Besides, the bug isn't only about the missing modelines, that's just what I care about. Like I said, the list of resolutions goes berserk with wrong refresh rates listed. I don't think anyone wants that anyways.

Boomer,
If you're using xrandr to list the refresh rates, please see the documentation for "DynamicTwinView" in the README: http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/L...ppendix-d.html

Re: After new driver install, modelines don't work

Success...

Option "DynamicTwinView" "false"

that was the magic word.

A lot of modes weren't overwritten by modelines like before, but I guess I'll figure that out later. They're all working on the new driver now.

Thank you.
