Beta driver 9742 won't compile for x86_64
So, I'm trying it because the new 8800 gtx won't work on the older drivers.
When trying to install it on Ubuntu 6.10 (kernel 2.6.17), I get: Code:
$ sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-9742-pkg2.run -n -s --x-prefix=/usr/lib/xorg/ --kernel-source-path=/usr/src/linux-headers-`uname -r`Previous drivers compile and install fine, they just won't work with the nvidia 8800 gtx in linux (I'm repeating myself here just to make it easier for search :) ) After installing, when I start X with the 9629 drivers, I get: Code:
$ startxthx!!! |

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=79902 might help
It's not so much a typo in the script, but a matter of the Ubuntu guys deciding to use dash instead of bash as the default shell Cambo |
Re: Beta driver 9742 won't compile for x86_64
Thanks Cambo, that solved it. I should have searched better ... there was no mention to that thread on the first results page, sorry for the duplicate thread.
The next problem is that now my whole screen is blank while in X. But is another topic, I'll post it as soon as I have gathered all the detail files. |
Re: Beta driver 9742 won't compile for x86_64
Probably a problem with the EDID info from your monitor, and the Nvidia driver being fussy. There's several threads covering this. Check your Xorg.0.log. Should be able to find an answer by searching this forum for "EDID Ignore"
