What about nvidia's cursor problem ?

Hy,

CPU : AMD 64X2 3800+
MB : ASUS M2NPV-VM ( I use integrated graphic card and FB to 256Mo )
Distrib : FC6
Nvidia's drivers : 9xxx

My simple test :
With HWCURSOR => no cursor 1 time over 10.
With SWCURSOR => cursor OK

But when I run COMPIZ I need to use HWCURSOR because of graphic bug with cursor.

I'd already post this question, but the only anwser I get is "change your bios ... it's a common bug ..."

I want to know why nvidia's graphics card hide my cursor !

Someone can explain me why this cursor disappear with hwcursor, and why with swcursor when I run compiz it's buggy.

This sounds like a BIOS bug that I've seen others report. In most cases updating to the latest BIOS, and configuring the amount of RAM/frambuffer allocated to the GPU (in the BIOS) fixed the problem.

I've the latest version of my bios and the most important amount of FrameBuffer allocated to the GPU.

Description of the Bug :



in normal use of metacity :

With HWCURSOR => no visible cursor

My solution, a really boring solution :



1. run metacity with swcursor.

2. change xorg.conf file to hwcursor.

3. run gdm-restart.



Magicaly i can get a visible cursor with hwcursor's mode and with compiz it's ok too.



but when I restart my computer in hwcursor .... problem be back and i can't see my cursor.

sorry I know that is a bit harsh and unfriendly, but never forget NVidia is a company focused on making money.

- NVidia earned max. ~50$ with the chip they sold or even way less.
- You report a problem which only happens on your computer.
- The most likely reason why this problems happen is because your bios/motherboard seem somehow broken.

I am not sure wether its worth for NVidia to set an engineer for 2 days to workarround this problems ... just to get one happy customer more ;)

I'm in your way but I'm not the only one, that just few people use compiz and swcursor option correct part of this bug.

nevertheless I hope nvidia stay interest on his users.. :o
