kernel 2.6.19; nForce 430; SATA hdd can't boot

Hello,

I changed kernel from 2.6.18.5 to 2.6.19.1 and SATA hdd can't boot (no root partition found). Have they changed partition numbering order or something?

I have enabled new sata architecture in 2.6.19 by compiling in kernel ahci and Nvidia SATA driver.

Console screen scrolls so fast so I can't read if there are any problems during boot.
Pause, scroll lock, SysRq keys do not work.

My config:
Asus A8N-VM CSM (geforce 6150 + nForce 430 known as MCP51) recent bios 1002
Seagate 80GB SATA1 drive (root partition sda8, swap sda11)
kernel 2.6.18.5 works using sda8 and sd11
kernel 2.6.19.1 does not using the same partition settings.

Resolved. However SATA drivers were moved to separate branch they still need SCSI support. So to have SATA working, enabling SCSI support is still needed as with previous kernel releases was.

Hi,

I don't know if you can help me but I am looking to install Linux on a box that has a NVIDIA nForce 430/410 Serial ATA controller. From reading your post in 02 your succeeded. Where did you find the Linux driver for that controller?

Thank you for your help

Can't believe zbiggy isolated this in 45 mins. Took me 4 hours. Setting CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SD gets the magic to happen. :afro2:
