9631 + GeForce4 440 Go + googleearth: display chaos

2 Attachment(s)
Running the combination mentioned in the title, googleearth display a very messy world. Rectangles are seemingly randomly replaced with other parts of the globe at a different scale. The attached screenshot should make clear what I mean.

Attachment 23049

I also attach a Attachment 23050.

I cannot run the latest driver (9746) since my card is not supported.

So far, googleearth is the only program in which I have noticed anything strange.

Try this: After starting Google Earth, switch to a text console (<Strg>-<Alt>-<F1>) and then back to X-Server. After this Google Earth should just run fine.

On my 420 Go this is the only way to use Google Earth with correct graphics.

Best regards and merry christmas,
Oli.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it doesn't make any difference at all.

Re: 9631 + GeForce4 440 Go + googleearth: display chaos

I upgraded to the latest driver (9746) to try to fix a problem with rdesktop/xinerama, and now I get this problem as well.
I have:
05:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV37GL [Quadro FX 330/Quadro NVS280] (rev a2)

I had this problem on my home PC during Summer 2006, and read on this forum that the problem was supposed to be fixed in the next driver release.

sjoerd,
Does this problem persist if you disable the Composite extension?

Mr. Sinister,
With which version of GoogleEarth are you seeing this problem (note a new version was released a few days ago).

Please generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

version 4.0.2413 (beta)
I just upgraded to 4.0.2723.0 and I still see Baffin Island in the middle of Utah (should be part of Canada).

Here's the log. I split it up into two files.

Does this problem persist if you're not using the Composite extension in xorg.conf ?

Yes. No difference with Composite disabled.

Have you verified that you're using the latest BIOS?

I'm using the latest I've been able to find. I found it at the Dell support site. It's version 04.17.00.55.c1.

I'm not sure which one of us you were asking so here are my answers:
Composite is disabled.
My current BIOS is 04.34.20.79.08

Re: 9631 + GeForce4 440 Go + googleearth: display chaos

Mr. Sinister,
Thanks, I've reproduced the problem. It appears to only get triggered when both X and the GoogleEarth window are occupying alot of screen resolution (I couldn't trigger it in just 1280x1024 on a single display device).

I've opened bug 281658.

Thanks,
Lonni
