Setting Native Panel Resolution??? 1.0.9746

1 Attachment(s)
I've been trying to setup my 7600GT (HDMI version) connected to my 50" Vizio P50HDM plasma but am not having any luck. In searching through prior posts, it appears that the Nvidia boards don't support 1366x768 resolution. (The native panel resolution.)

So I've been playing with scaling the resolution using the Nvidia xserver settings utility provided. I don't see where I can set the native res to 1366x768. The current settings are using nvidia-auto-select which is running at 1280x720.

If I'm missing something, or am going about this the wrong way, please let me know!

Thanks!

According to the bug report:
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No modes were requested; the default mode "nvidia-auto-select"
(WW) NVIDIA(0): will be used as the requested mode.
(II) NVIDIA(0): Virtual screen size determined to be 1280 x 720

If you want 1366x768 then you need to request it, and/or provide a bug report which captures the EDID.

Thanks,
Lonni

There's no EDID in this bug report. You need to start X with the following command before generating the bug report (per the post I referenced earlier):
startx -- -logverbose 6

Here is the Xorg.0.log with the EDID info.

Thanks.

There's no 1366x768 mode in the EDID of your DFP (see the X log for the native modes in the EDID). Can you point me to where 1366x768 is documented as a native mode for this DFP?

Thanks,
Lonni

Snipped from the manual:

Product P50 HDM
Panel: 50" Diagonal, 16:9 Aspect Ratio
Resolution: 1366 x 768 pixels
Pixel (Dot) Pitch: 0.81 (H) mm x .81 mm (V)
Display Compatibility: HDTV (720p)
Signal Compatibility: 480i (SDTV), 480P (EDTV), 720P (HDTV), 1080i (HDTV)

Also, I was able to get this to work on WinXP with some slight overscan tweaking. If the EDID doesn't report properly, what is the next best option to connect the plasma? Would the TVOut option work? I.e., set it to 1080i? Or is there an issue with the 7600GT using the DVI/HDMI out as a TV Out?

Thanks!

You could try doing TV-Out with Component out, but the modes that area available will be hardcoded to what each TvStandard provides.

One other thing that is interesting. Immediately after the Nvidia splash screen, the fedora loading screen (screen where the horizontal bar moves across the screen) appears to be in a resolution higher than the "normal" 1280x720. Is it possible to identify this resolution and see if it's possible to recreate it? Once the bar makes it way all the way across the screen, the resolution changes back to 1280.

Also, how do I set the native resolution so that I can scale the screen appropriately using the nvidia x-server config tool? It stays on 1280x720 and I don't see a way to change it.

Thanks for the continued help!

Re: Setting Native Panel Resolution??? 1.0.9746

The rhgb screen should be using whatever is configured from xorg.conf, and should therefore be the same as whatever you get when X is running at any other time.

I don't understand your question about scaling the screen.
