10-post minimum to post links?
I was browsing the High-Def Digest forums and happened to come upon a thread in which a poster with fewer than 10 posts was unable to post links. Apparently, it’s a security feature they use over there to help cut down on the one-post-wonders we lovingly refer to as “****ing spammers!!!!”
Their boards are built on vBulletin as well, so perhaps it’s a feature inherit in all vBulletin distributions and one that we could possibly look into in hopes of stopping at least SOME of the spam. Thoughts? |

AVS forum does the same thing. Except they have a 5 post minimum to post links.

Re: 10-post minimum to post links?
Thats an excellent idea.
I'm all for it. I vote for 5 posts though. That would cut down on spammers by a lot without causing problems for new users trying to post valid links. |

The thing is, once you take away the spammers ability to post links.. They just start copying/pasting and posting large amounts of data to the forum instead..
It would take more bandwidth to send entire contents of a page than it would to send a link. |
