nVidia Linux Ethernet driver
Hey all
We're using RHEL3u8 (64bit) on HP xw9300 and xw9400 workstations. The driver provided by RedHat in RHEL3u8 sucks when you're transferring lots of small files and connected to a 1GB switch. A while ago I was sent an RPM for the 2.4.21-47 kernel providing version 0.60 of the forcedeth driver. I've found what I believe is a later version of this but only for the 32 bit OS (http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_nforce_1.21.html). Can anyone advise where I can find the latest forcedeth driver (perferrably packaged into an RPM)? Thanks CC UPDATE: Forget it. That link does contain the 64bit version. Doh! |
Re: nVidia Linux Ethernet driver
I see the x86_64 RPM for RHEL-3.8 in the zip archive. Where are you looking and not finding it?

Re: nVidia Linux Ethernet driver
Hi again
Will nVidia be releasing an update to the forcedeth driver for the updated EL3u8 kernel? CC |
Re: nVidia Linux Ethernet driver
There are no current plans to release updates beyond what is currently released.

Transferring many small files over a 1GB network generally will not give you the transfer rate you might have expected, especially when you do not use a clever protocol like rsync (that keeps a pipe full of data instead of handling each file transfer as a separate transaction). "The driver sucks" hardly is a description of a problem. |
Re: nVidia Linux Ethernet driver
Agreed. "Driver sucks" is a poor description of the problem. However, when I upgraded from the RedHat provided 0.30 to the nforce 0.60 driver all the performance problems 'went away'.
