geforce4 4200 go, 1920x1200 laptop, 1920x1200 external lcd

inspiron 8500 laptop notebook with a 64MB GeForce4 4200 Go video card

both the laptop screen and the external LCD (via a VGA cable) are 1920x1200

nvidia driver 9631 (because the 9746 driver says the card's GPU requires a 96XX driver)

the best i've obtained is 640x480 on the external LCD using twinview

can the video card handle both at 1920x1200 ?

with this hardware, is there anyway at all to get 1920x1200 on the external LCD (and anything or nothing on the laptop display)

tia,
mike

Re: geforce4 4200 go, 1920x1200 laptop, 1920x1200 external lcd

it is now running the laptop display at 1920x1200 and the external LCD (via VGA cable) at 1600x1200

i'm still unable to get 1920x1200 on the external display regardless of the laptop display

if 1600x1200 is the "geforce4 4200 go"'s highest res for an external display, then it would be nice to have the aspect ratio 4:3 instead of stretched to 16:9, or at least have that choice.

tia,
mike

According to your bug report, you're requesting a 1600x1200 mode for the CRT, so that's what you're getting.

However, it also looks like the EDID for the CRT isn't available:
(WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Unable to read EDID for display device CRT-0

If you want a mode larger than 1600x1200, you'll probably need to create a modeline, and request it.

Thanks,
Lonni

Re: geforce4 4200 go, 1920x1200 laptop, 1920x1200 external lcd

we could really cut to the chase if someone would offer up the specs for the card. is the card able to supply 1920x1200 out the laptop's vga port?

the xorg.conf attachment was first created by nvidia-settings.

it was then edited by hand to change the 640x480_60 to 1600x1200_60

that xorg.conf works as it appears it should: laptop at 1920x1200 and external at 1600x1200

the external is actually a native 1920x1200 60Hz panel.

when the 640x480_60 is changed to 1920x1200_60, only the laptop display appears.

anyhelp would be appreciated

mike
