6800GT heat issues

I've been running my 6800GT for about a week now, and just did some tests to check the max temp. Under ATITool, the temperature peaked at 81c after running the 3d view for about 20 minutes. I have an Idle temp of ~55c. Are these temp's fine (As in no harm to the card), or should I get an aftermarket cooler or atleast a PCI cooler to suck some of the hot air out?

Right now the card isn't overclocked.

AGP or PCIe?

Some of the AGP cards in the 6X00 series do run warm.

If you do not get a response here, you might consider sending an email to the boardmaker.

They are fine. My old 6800GT AGP would run around 50c idle. It would climb on a hot day to around 80-90C in some games. Video cards have alot higher stress limit on temperatures. So they can handle more heat. The actual core slow down, and thats just a slow down is around 120c for the 6800GT.

It's an AGP.

So 80-90c is nothing to worry about? The reason I ask is because I was considering overclocking the card a bit (got it to around 435/1070), but don't want to if it'll push the card into the 90's (if that is too high that is).

My Aopen 6800GT idled around 45 and peaked at worst at around 75C. That was with a 120mm fan in the back of the case. So 80C isn't too much, but it's not low either.

I'd get a 3rd Party Cooler for it. The 6800s are known for running warm. You won't have any problems, as long as you keep it dust free, but heat is never good for hardware. Look up the Zalman VF900 or something similar to it. Almost anything will make a big improvement over the stock HSF. Don't get one of those PCI fan blowers, they are worthless. If you want exhaust, just add another case fan(s).

I just adjusted the fan speed to change based on the temp with Rivatuner. So right now in ATITool/Rthdribl, temps max at around 75c, and in games like BF2, it gets to mid 60's. So I guess it's not bad for now, unless I OC to an Ultra, which is when I get some artifacts.
