Help Needed!

I just installed Fedora Core 6 64bit. I was previously running Windows XP but wanted a change. I am having issues with glitchy graphics and the system crashing. The system will not run long enough for me to do anything so I will have to fix problems through bootup. I am not quite sure what the problem is but I feel it might be with my graphics driver.

My computer:
AMD 64 X2 3800+
BFG Nvidia 7800 GT graphics card
1GB of memory
160GB hard drive

Please help if possible thanks,
Chris

I have looked at this but am still lost. Is there a way to create a boot disk for running driver installs?

Re: Help Needed!

best is get a live linux CD

Knoppix or so: almost every linux magazine has a cd or dvd

Boott from cd / dvd

mont your root partition : it has the directory /etc

go to that directory
edit the file inittab

look for the default startup mode
change that from 5 to 3

Now your machine will boot in non graphical mode

Install the drivers
install them
test via start x
if all is Ok
ediot the inittab file and set default mode to 5

This will give you some peace between X window crashes ..

when one changes a video card always edit this file to mode 3
so one has time to install the driver

Or you can just pass the number 3 to your boot loader.
