It's not that it is a big deal that you have to wait that long, but what does it do for 1 minute, balance the swashplates? :)

I believe the XA2 uses the version 3.7a firmware for its Flux Capacitor which has drastically improved load times.

Wow, 1 minute is pretty bad but at least 35 seconds isn't quite as bad. Why does it take so long though?

While those type things aren't show-stoppers, stuff like that can be pretty irritating. I hate the Samsung Combo unit that I have b/c it can take 10-15 seconds to eject a disk that's in the drive. When you're use to something being pretty quick (or happening instantly) delays like that become annoying. I also don't think feeling like that is uncommon. People are always trying to shave time off the boot-time of computers, for example. Does it really kill anyone for a computer to take a minute to boot. No, but do people prefer it take 30 seconds or less. Yes. (* just made up the boot times *)

My Sony upconverting regular player takes about 20-30 seconds to load up so it's no big deal to me. The Sony 400 disc changer I had before took even longer than that.

well it looks like they got this one right. I heard some bad things about some of the first gen HD-DVD players.

Personally the startup doesn't bother me much becuase I use my 360 for a player, and you have the normal boot to dash plus getting the DVD started up.

I was really annoyed with the A2 at first. I’m coming from a 4 year old Toshiba DVD player that may be the single best piece of technology I’ve ever owned and used (simply because it had so many features and worked so well for so long). I could press the eject button when the player was off and it would IMMEDIATELY eject, even as the player was booting. It started up in less than 10 seconds and was playing the DVD by 15 seconds.

I just got used to instant gratification.

However, the A2 has definitely grown on me…I’m used to how it works now and try to plan things around the power-up cycle. For instance, I’ll hit the play/power button and then go to fill up my cup of water. By the time I get back, it’s usually well on its way toward playing or getting to the menu.

I’ve also just gotten used to it in general, so the longer boot time doesn’t bother me anymore. I still wish it ejected immediately when the eject button was pushed, but I’ll live. :)
