Intel : the solution under linux in the future ?

Hello,

as nvidia linux 2d support is more or less inexisting, intel could become a good choice.

No : they don't have good cards...

Well, it could change : http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/d...208063540.html

You mean "open source nvidia linux 3d support is more or less inexisting"?
Well, this could change, too (noveau-project).

AFAIK, they don't have any cards, just GPUs built-into the chipsets.

Competition is always a good thing :-)

However, i'm sure you will get full docs for their GPUs, like
you can download it for the GMA3000! What, you can't find
the complete GMA3000 docs on the intel server? Guess what!

No, I don't care about 3d, I want 2d support, and I could perfectly live with binary driver if it support 2d well...

nouveau is a good idea, maybe it could turn in something also usable for a good 2d support in linux :-)

Sofar, the best result in 2d under linux I have found was with a Matrox G450 (G550 wasn't as good) in term of quality, but of course not in term of acceleration (well, xmga isn't that bad if your video are smaller than 1024x1024).

The future is open programmable chips like x86 architecture. AMD is talking about merging CPU and GPU so it could be one chip with open, common register and instruction list.
