Gforce FX5200 in Ubuntu Linux Refresh Rate

I am running a Gforce FX5200 in Ubuntu Linux and I am having major problems. I am trying to setup a 1280x960 screen with a refresh rate of 70hz. I made a modeline for this resolution and refresh rate, but it is not being accepted. Below I have listed my xorg.conf file:

Is there any thing I need to change or add to get the modeline value I generated to work. Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

Re: Gforce FX5200 in Ubuntu Linux Refresh Rate

you want VertRefresh @ 70hz not Horiz!

and they may need to be quoted " " " " i don't recall.

Re: Gforce FX5200 in Ubuntu Linux Refresh Rate

Why don't you use nvidia-settings ?

Re: Gforce FX5200 in Ubuntu Linux Refresh Rate

Yes I want Verticle at 70 hz and If nvidia settings included a way to select the options I wanted I would use it.

Re: Gforce FX5200 in Ubuntu Linux Refresh Rate

swap your hoiz and vert numbers, looks like you have them backwards.

Re: Gforce FX5200 in Ubuntu Linux Refresh Rate

The Horiz and vert refresh rates are correct as stated in the monitors manual. Still not able to change from 60hz to anything usable like 75 or 85 hz.

Re: Gforce FX5200 in Ubuntu Linux Refresh Rate

Please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 6

and then generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

Re: Gforce FX5200 in Ubuntu Linux Refresh Rate

Tried running the startx command you listed and I got a error and had to reboot the system to get back in to Linux.

Re: Gforce FX5200 in Ubuntu Linux Refresh Rate

Tried loading nvidia-settings program and in Ubuntu this removes the nvidia-glx module. Don't know how to keep both running.

Re: Gforce FX5200 in Ubuntu Linux Refresh Rate

And that error would be?

Re: Gforce FX5200 in Ubuntu Linux Refresh Rate

Re: Gforce FX5200 in Ubuntu Linux Refresh Rate

Right, you can't start X a 2nd time, if its already running. X needs to be stopped before you can start it again.
