Turning off nvidia-auto-select on 9746

Is there a way to DISable nvidia-auto-select in 1.0.9746? I have displays that don't return good EDID and nvidia-auto-select keeps making decisions for resolutions.

Thanks!

nvidia-auto-select is nothing more than the best mode that the driver determines for your display device.

It sounds like what you really want to disable is the EDID detection, which can be accomplished by setting the UseEDID option to false. See the driver README for more information.

Thanks,
Lonni

Re: Turning off nvidia-auto-select on 9746

Hi Lonni,

Well, I set a modeline and use the following switches:

Option Metamodes 1920x1080_60
ExactModeTimingsDVI true
UseEDIDFreqs false
UseEDID false

...and the log file notes that nvidia-auto-select mode is xvga for a SHARP LCD panel. I try to send it a 1920x1080_60 mode that is supported by the monitor. If the mode was bad, I'd expect a dark monitor, not xvga. I'll have another thorough look at the file. Thoughts appreciated.

Please generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log per the instructions in the sticky posts.

Re: Turning off nvidia-auto-select on 9746

Does the 9746 driver allow one to *completely* ignore the EDID information? Regardless of what I do, there's log evidence to support that my modes are being compared with EDID in some way. I'd expect a blank display if my modeline was bogus or wrong, comparted to a 640x480 or 1024x768 image.

Is there a way to adjust the nvidia "safe-mode" table?

Thanks!

I believe that I already answered this question earlier in this same thread.

Re: Turning off nvidia-auto-select on 9746

Hi Lonni,

Thanks very much. It just seems as if EDID is needed and used in some way, regardless of all the ignore EDID-type settings I use. I've turned off the obvious EDID (in a redundant manner) switches and still the driver picks 640x480. I've even tried using a known EDID bin file. Seems as if the priority of the custom modeline and bin file options are lower than that of EDID from the display. What if the EDID from the display is bogus? I've seen this, too.
