iZ3D monitor in linux?
I'm wondering if this 3d monitor will work in linux: http://iz3d.com/products/22_iz3d.html
Here's the response I got on their forums: http://www.neurokoptics.com/cgi-loca...num=1172130495 Here's the response to my email: Quote:

Re: iZ3D monitor in linux?
Per the driver README, only Quadro graphics support stereo.

Re: iZ3D monitor in linux?
If 3d monitors become somewhat common consumer items, will the drivers be changed so that I can run a monitor like that on my 7800gt?

Re: iZ3D monitor in linux?
I think there is some confusion here. The NVIDIA Linux driver support so-called "application stereo", where an application draws into the left and right stereo buffers on its own. That mode is only supported on Quadros. NVIDIA also has a driver that provides stereo in games on GeForces, but that driver is only available for Windows.
I hope that clarifies things. |

Re: iZ3D monitor in linux?
I think stereo 3D is getting really common now and it is really a shame, that nVidia is not able (not willing) to support this in Linux. :thumbdwn:
Until now, I always bought nVidia graphics cards starting with a RivaTNT, and GeForce 256, 6800 GTX and 8800 GTX later on. It is a shame that nVidia is artificially crippling the prosumer graphics cards' stereo 3D capabilities and its double precision GPGPU performance. Heck, I can't even watch stereo 3D movies with a 600€ nVidia GeForce GTX590 - on Linux. :thumbdwn: I was always positive about nVidia and its compatibility with Linux. Therefore, I never bought ATI or AMD graphics cards before, but I really think I will switch. At least they do not cripple the double precision GPGPU performance as nVidia does. Best regards, drmah (a former nVidia zealot - and now totally sick of it) |
Re: iZ3D monitor in linux?
They just don't support 3D Stereo in OpenGL on any platform when using plain Geforce cards, get a Quadro if you want that.
