1080p not supported?

I'm using Kubuntu 6.10, and I've tried the latest nvidia driver, one from December '06, and one from October '06, and none of them support 1080p.

I have a EVGA 7800GTX, and a Westinghouse LVM-42w2 monitor. I use 1920x1080 in windows all the time - so I know it works. Also, when I switch my driver setting to the default "nv" driver instead of "nvidia", 1080p works (thanks to the 1080p modeline I inserted into xorg.conf) - but with that same xorg.conf file it maxes out at 1280x1024 with the nvidia drivers.

/var/log xorg file says something about 1920x1080_60.00 not being a valid mode.

I've been at this for the last 3 hours, and I'm very close to going back to windoze. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My bug report log does not fit in the character limit, and I could not find any other posts about linux-7800gtx-1080p problems.

As many others have done, you can compress the bug report to attach it.

Re: 1080p not supported?

So, do nvidia drivers in fact support 1080p in Linux, or are they limited to standard computer resolutions?

Re: 1080p not supported?

The modeline you inserted is wrong and have a too high frequency. Did you try with the normal "1920x1080" ?

Re: 1080p not supported?

As Lithorus stated, your custom modeline isn't valid. You should let the driver use the mode in the EDID of your display. Also, 1.0-8776 is no longer supported. If you need further assistance, please retest with 1.0-9755.

Thanks,
Lonni
