SUSE geforce driver installation snafu

I am running SUSE 10.1 on an Intel Core Duo and a GeForce 7900.

I tried to install the latest nvidia GeForce driver and I used the YaST method as indicated on the nvidia download page. The process appeared to progress properly until I rebooted. At this point, the NVIDIA graphics driver module does not load, which makes the X server fail, which throws me in a text console mode.

How do I recover from this snafu?

i haven't used the, yast method....
see if you can get the generic "nv" driver to load,
(edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf, change driver from "nvidia" to "nv")
and if it does, then get the
NVIDIA-Linux-*.*.run driver package and save to your hard drive, in console as root
install the driver and pay special attention to what it says when trying to build the
driver.....

Brilliant! That got me back in a reasonable state.

Thanks!
