Glxgear low FPS

Hi.

My hardware:

Motherboard: Gigabye K8N Pro (754) AGP
Graphics : Gainward 7800GS BLISS 512MB Silent FX
Linux drivers: dkms-nvidia-9746 / NVIDIA-9746
RAM: 2GB
OS: Mandriva Linux 2007.0 with Beryl 0.2.0

cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Enabled
Driver: AGPGART
AGP Rate: 8x
Fast Writes: Disabled
SBA: Enabled

cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/card
Fast Writes: Supported
SBA: Supported
AGP Rates: 8x 4x
Registers: 0xff000e1b:0x1f004302

xorg.conf
. . .
Section "Module"
Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension
Load "v4l" # Video for Linux
Load "extmod"
Load "type1"
Load "freetype"
Load "/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia/libglx.so"
Load "glx"
EndSection
. . .
Section "Device"
Identifier "device1"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "nVidia Corp."
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce 7 Series"
Option "RenderAccel" "True"
Option "DisableGLXRootClipping" "true"
Option "BackStoring" "True"
Option "VideoRAM" "524288"
Option "NvAGP" "3"

EndSection
. . .

When I test with glxgears:
8124 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1624.542 FPS
8463 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1691.962 FPS
7593 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1518.218 FPS
8827 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1765.292 FPS

So, I just wonder, how some guys got about 10000-12000 FPS with lower value of hardware.

Does anyone know, whats wrong with my settings

Cheers: Ari

Damn I ! :(

Beryl 0.2.0 eat lot of power. I switched WindowManager->KWin, and test again.

glxgears:
68009 frames in 5.0 seconds = 13599.886 FPS
68233 frames in 5.0 seconds = 13646.543 FPS
68028 frames in 5.0 seconds = 13605.494 FPS

Re: Glxgear low FPS

Well duh. It converts every window to a texture, including the background image, and uses the 3D functionality of your GPU to display the textures. Of course it's going to have a huge impact on performance.
