out of range

I've got an up and running system, Kubuntu 6.10 with a GeForce FC 5200 card, a bog standard CTX 17" 700b monitor (1280x1024) - 3D and everything is sweet.

Recently I got one of those switchers, i.e. one monitor, keyboard and mouse for two computers. Plugged it in between and on the above setup I get an out of range signal (tells me it should be within 1280x1024@75) where usually you'd have the NVIDIA logo coming up. Once KDM takes over I can see things again.

I've edited the xorg.conf, where the latest NVIDIA driver accidentally put 1600x1200 as the highest res - my monitor and I didn't know it could take it :), but it I suppose it does, why the out of range signal otherwise?

Anybody out there who knows how to manipulate the initialisation phase of the NVIDIA driver? This ain't a crucial problem, but I'd like to get it sorted (nana2)
