P5W DH : Voltage Regulator heat sink.
2 days i will have Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II to for NB.
so i have to remove the heat sink with the pipe, and the Voltage Regulator will have no cover for cooling!. in fact i don't want to Cut or Bend the Pipe so i don't want to lose the Warranty if something goes wrong in the near future. any solution or advice for this? thanks in advance http://www.3dnews.ru/_imgdata/img/2006/07/07/21542.jpg sorry. i think i put my question in the wrong section!. --------- |

I would recommend just dremelling the pipe off at the base, illustrated here (in red circle):

Just be careful with the mosfets; I believe you need Thermal Adhesive for those sinks. BTW why didnt you just put the fan that came with the board on the stock sink?? |

I'm just a afraid if i cut it off, this will void M.B. warranty . and about the fan, hemmm I’ve tried it doesn't fit, it's meant to be used with the MOSFET if i attend to use a passive cooling. i bought this TT Spirit II cause i want to Overclock my e6600 alot more, in this case i have to Increase the MCH volts, and that will make it hot. Thanks again. :) |

You're supposed to put the fan on the mosfet heatsink.... THe heat emitted from the MCH (northbridge) is transferred to the mos fet sink via the copper pipe and then blown away. The fan that comes with the board cools them both. :)
On a side note, I miss my P5W DH Deluxe :( I hit 500 FSB on that piece, and could actually utilize my RAMs full potential. I probably should have kept that board, waited, and got Xfire with the new R600 cards... But oh well. Hope this helps. :D |

Why you want to change it? Is it running hot? I haven't seen mine go over 34c running at 400MHz and I'm not even using the fan provided(does more harm than good in my case)

water is good :) I just completed the mod as discussed in this thread. dremmeled off the northbridge heatsink as shown in the pic, leaving the piece passively cooling the mosfets. got the danger den 975x intel chipset waterblock. i'm now able to increase the mch/northbride voltage from default 1.55 to max 1.85 stable. before it wouldn't operate stable anything over default. the northbridge heatsink was hot as hell. had incredible heat buildup inside the case. my fsb is 412 since my processor e6600 is multi locked at 9 and hits a wall at 3.7, no matter what voltage or loosing the mem timings. I'm sure the fsb on the mobo can go up much higher with the mch at 1.85. Anything over 390 before was very unstable due to 1.55 mch volts. increasing volts created lots of heat, which would result in crash. no more with H2O.

There is no north bridge sensor on this board. The motherboard temperature reported is the on-chip sensor on the ICH7R south bridge.
