Anisotropic filtering and Antialias problems with 9755 and FX5900

I have been having trouble not being able to activate AA/AF on my FX5900 card with the latest drivers.

Kernel is 2.6.20 FC6 stock.

Using AIGLX (as Option AIGLX True) in Xorg, other pertinent options being used in Xorg.conf are:

Code:

Section "Module"
        Load  "fbdevhw"
        Load  "record"
        Load  "freetype"
        Load  "type1"
        Load  "glx"
        Load  "dbe"
        Load  "extmod"
EndSection

Section "Device"
        Identifier  "Videocard0"
        Driver      "nvidia"
        Option      "NoFlip" "true"
        Option      "NoLogo" "true"
        Option      "NVAGP" "3"
        Option      "HwCursor" "true"
        Option      "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen0"
        Device    "Videocard0"
        Monitor    "Monitor0"
        DefaultDepth    24
        Option      "metamodes" "1280x1024_75 +0+0"
        Option      "RenderAccel" "true"
        SubSection "Display"
                Viewport  0 0
                Depth    24
#            Modes    "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1115x864" "1024x768" "800x600"
"640x480"
        EndSubSection

I don't seem able to enable AA/AF by either exporting the environment variables or by using the nvidia-settings program, I will try to see if AIGLX or other of the driver options is what is preventing this by means of editing and testing, but I hadn't modified my Xorg.conf file in quite a while, and AA/AF was working just fine with the 1.0-9746 driver. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Edit

Exporting the __GL_FSAA_MODE variables do seem to work, alas setting the AA options (as well as sync to VBlank and AF) in nvidia-settings does not.

Where or how are you determining that its not enabled?

Also, see:

I'm running different types of applications to determine whether or not AA is being enabled, the different games I'm running are UT99, Rune for Linux, UT2004, Blender and even Beryl.

Oops, sorry for the double post, I thought I had edited... Please remove the above post.

All of the symptoms that you've described suggest that the NVIDIA driver is not correctly installed.

That might be so, I installed using Livna RPM packages... I'll remove them and install with the installer, see if there's any difference.

Re: Anisotropic filtering and Antialias problems with 9755 and FX5900

For some reason, the installer for 9755 detected 9746 installed. Prior to installing the Livna packages (I wanted to tests how were they in regards to automatic updates, and such) I did uninstall the previous version (9746) using the nvidia-installer to uninstall them, still apparently they were not fully removed from the system, so when 9755 were available from Livna, there was this inconsistency. I can't tell what remaineded of the 9746 drivers on the system, but the 9755 installer picked that up and promptly said that I had the 9746 drivers installed. This with the Livna packages already removed from the system, so what lingered, I can only guess...

Thanks for your suggestions, and just for completeness sake (and to test if whether or not the Livna packages are deffective) how can I fully remove the drivers so that the installer won't detect any previous version installed? I already know that I'll have to replace a package as the libglx.so file gets overwritten, and I'll have to replace it, other than that I'm not sure what may have lingered on the system that was picked up by the 9755 installer.

The installer's --uninstall option will remove all traces of the official driver package.

Re: Anisotropic filtering and Antialias problems with 9755 and FX5900

FYI, the Livna RPM package xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-1.0.9755-3.lvn6 installs a couple of startup files (/etc/profile.d/nvidia.{sh,csh}) that effectively overrides nvidia-settings. I put some unset commands in my .bashrc to give control back.

Code:

# the livna package sets these, but we don't really want them
unset __GL_SINGLE_THREADED
unset __GL_FSAA_MODE
unset __GL_DEFAULT_LOG_ANISO
unset __GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK
unset __GL_SYNC_DISPLAY_DEVICE

Enjoy
scott

Thanks for the heads up, really handy for when I get back to the Livna packages.
