Some advice...
1 Attachment(s)
Hi Everyone,
I'll picking up a set soon. I only have about $2000.00 to lay down on one. What do all think of the models on this flyer? (I've attached it) If you had to choose one, For best PQ with STD Dish network which one would you go with?? Your input would really be appreciated!! Thanks test |
Re: Some advice...
Based on what I've read around the net, the sony rear projection TVs seem to offer the best pic. quality for the money. So I'd get the 55" SXRD. Not sure about those prices though; they seem kind of high for the US. Just do a quick search around the net and see if you can find it for less. :)

Re: Some advice...
Yea that Sony is nice, unfortunately I only have $2000.00 to spend.
Those are Canadian Prices by the way. To make it simple, if you had a choice between everything on that flyer at 2 grand or less, which one would be the wisest choice? |

Did a quick search and found this: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0086238&catid=
I really don't know any Canadian stores, but I did my best and that's what I found. :) This is an alternative from Sharp: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0079999&catid= I'd still say your best bet would be to save some more money and get a nice 50" rear projection SXRD TV from Sony. EDIT: If I HAD to choose one of the TVs from the flyer it would have to be the philips lcd; Toshiba's cinema series just doesn't deliver in terms of picture quality according to some people. Philips makes some good lcds and if you want, you could get one with ambilight! :) |
Re: Some advice...
Hey Toss3,
Thank you very much for taking the time!!!! I appreciate that!!! I may take you advice, although i do admit, a rear projection has me a bit iffy, having to buy new bulbs, viewing angles, and such. I am wondering thou, you didn't mention the Toshiba 42" Plasma an option. How come? I've heard that LCD's give a worse SD picture than Plasma. That is a concern for me as I have (right now) Satellite and its only Component capable. No HDMI on my current receiver. No HDTV on it. Basically I'm just starting to change over and the only HD i'm gonna see for a few months is VIA an Antenna on the roof...lol. God I tell yea. This has not been a pleasant process so far. But you have made it a bit easier. Thanks!!! |

SD-quality material won't really look good on any lcd out there larger than 40". But you should just swing by your nearest retailers and do some comparisons and see if you can find anything you like. |
Re: Some advice...
Ok, I've pretty much narrowed my choices.
I think I'm gonna go for this: Samsung LCDTV LNT 4042 HX http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...gon=&langid=EN Anyone here own this model? Thanks, |
Re: Some advice...
Update:
I bought Samsung 4042HX HD LCD. My primary concern (for now) was the standard def performance of "whatever" I bought because I don't have many HD choices right now. The verdict is in. This LCD is absolutely stunning using an SD source (my satellite box) and component video. I admit that the smaller 40" screen size helps, but I was NOT expecting the picture quality using standard cable or satellite.the HD channels I do get are terrific of course. I have a few buddies who have 42" plasma's and the PQ is no where near what this LCD puts out using SD. I'm pretty darn happy with it! |
Re: Some advice...
42" Plasma's are usually cheap "EDTV" **** rebadged Gateway, Dell etc.
