Vista Tips

So now that I have Vista up and Running what are some recommend tweaks and features I should use... I really haven't messed much with the OS.

BTW Why wont the games folder locate HL2, it found HL2:Ep1 but not the original, nor did it find Dark Messiah.

Exactly what i was thinking to asked about and YES I know all about the tweakguide but it could be great to know what you all guys do after a fresh install to tweak it up a little :)

I just sat up Vista the other day for my new comp and it feels really awsome but some performence tweaks are allways welcome, so come on guys tweaks please ?

BTW! The first thing I did was disable indexing for my drives as i have seen most do that but thats its and then with some patience later on some services will of course go off :D

because almost all games in steam use hl2.exe as main exe.
game explorer gets confused, in my case it found 4 counter strike source games.

FEAR / TDU / Stalker non of them are in the games folder to.
Only the games for windows will do that I think

BTW disable that crap UAC, that was the absolutely first thing I did.
I hate it click here and click there for every damn driver, it sucks!

not excactly true, after PC upgrade and reinstall of OS, game explorer won't add company of heroes or supreme commander to my list.

game explorer needs to be fixed, or someone should create a 3rd party tool to add games to it

Okey to bad then :(
I just installed FEAR and see there, in the games explorer it is so FEAR actually works atlest for now, nice :D
As you say an app who adds games to it would be great.

tips
1) if you have 2gb ram, get a good readyboost usb drive, it does help, not a lot, but you will notice, these drives are cheap, so it won't hurt
2) unless you are searching a lot, disable indexing

I've added a few games manually to the Games Explorer by editing the registry. Granted, it was not straight forward and I did not spend a great deal of time with it, but it led me to conclude that we will surely see a 3rd party utility eventually.

yeah i did that to one game, but it to much of work

first drop a shortcut in game explorer, go into registry find the new entry, and change what you need. box art still didn't work.
