8800 vs HD2900 in PowerDVD Ultra

I have a single core 3000+, how would a HD2900 compare to my 8800GTS 640MB in PowerDVD Ultra? Better, worse or about the same?

In XP, a majority of titles work fine.

In Vista, many either dont work at all or are jumpy from 100% higher CPU usage.

I think that the 8800 series is better due to lack of UVD in the HD 2900, its relying on the avio decoding that was present in the X1000 Series which wasn't bad but not as good as the new purevideo support of the G80s.

Hm I thought PureVideo HD didnt really do much with 8800s? On 8500/8600 it does (at least on Vista apparently). Hmmm... 8800s make up for it by just being more powerful, is HD2900 the same in that regard (2400/2600 having UVD but 2900 not?)

The 8800 has partial video decoding while the lower end cards have full video decoding, the HD 2900 I think lacks all video decoding (don't know if its really all or just the lack of the new UVD) while the low end cards have full decoding.

Will you be using PowerDVD for playing back regular DVDs or HD-DVD/Blu-ray discs? If you are only watching DVDs then you'll have no problems with either card. If you are interested in HD playback then stick with the 8800GTS. What I've noticed when playing HD-DVDs on my PC using PowerDVD and my 8800GTS is that sometimes enabling video hardware decoding would cause PowerDVD to only produce audio... not video with select titles. It's most likely a software bug with PowerDVD. Cyberlink should have that all straightened out soon.

Oh yeh playing HD-DVDs. Ok looks like I'll stick with 8800GTS :) I just wish Nvidia would hurry up and support DV in Vista :(
