Problem:NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7185 on RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro
1 Attachment(s)
Hello:
I'm running Ubuntu (Linux version 2.6.20-15-386), and trying to install the Latest Legacy GPU driver (1.0-7185) on RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro. I finished installing the driver, but when I try to start X, it occured an error: Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module! Here is the nvidia-bug-report I've tried several solutions which I found in the forum but they did not work. The problem really bothers me. Thanks! -Mike |

Your dmesg shows version conflict. Ensure only the 7185 version is present. Is there a 9755 package installed?

Yeah, I intalled 9755 package before and remove it by in the Menu later.
Now. I've removed some package whick I think will be related to 9755, and reinstalled the 7185. And the error still exists and 9755 still appeares in nvidia-bug-report.log. Could you give me any advice how to remove the 9755 package completely? Thank you! ========================================= Great! It's done! Though I still don't know how to remove the 9755 package completely, I know one basic method: remove all of the system and reinstall it. After that the problem is never occured.:) But why my screen resolution is only 800*600 and refresh rate can just reach 60Hz ?? It seemed to be lower than before. what can I do? |

Thanks, I found a thread here
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=439800&page=2 testube_babies suggest //in fact, it maybe come from netllama 1) In Section "Monitor" of xorg.conf, change the Horizsync and Vertrefresh numbers to a wide range, eg 20-100 for both. I just added these: Option "HorizSync" "CRT-0: 50-110; DFP-0: 40-70" Option "VertRefresh" "CRT-0: 60-120; DFP-0: 60" 2) In Section "Device" insert Option "UseEDIDFreqs" "False" to override the faulty monitor detection. //If I do not add this, the resolution is still ok It's O.K. now! PS: Here is a link to how to install NVIDIA driver, the step is clear, It maybe useful to some one: http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Latest_Nvidia_Edgy |
