I tried ubunto , couldnt put a driver on though
 

the start screen was all pretty with the ubunto logo then it starts in 8bit colours (all wrong ones) and a messed up resolution that shows 30% of the screen ,it ignores the reolution I select at the start. How do I install a driver if I cant see a control panel?
I was using MS virtual thing ,is that the problem,
gnome worked fine by the way.

You should give Ubuntu a try, never heard of Ubunto though, sounds scary.

We should only be using 24 bit color these days. Anything else is problematic.
