Slack 12 issue

whenever I try to install an NVIDIA driver (I've tried 9755 and 9639, not current) the install goes along fine with no errors .. however whenever I do a modprobe nvidia from the CLI I get the following error (paraphrased):

Error insterting i2c_core (/lib/modules/2.6.21.5-smp/kernel/drivers/i2c/i2c-core.ko): Invalid module format

And the driver doesn't load ... is there a way around this? I have been banging my head on this for a while now to no avail ...

i2c-core ships with your kernel. I'd guess that you've got a rule in modprobe.conf that is associating i2c-core with the nvidia kernel module.

I will check that ... goofy that by default it would do that but hey what do I know :)

Re: Slack 12 issue

since this is a default install of slack .. my modprobe conf file is empty (default settings anyway).

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Slack 12 issue

If built against a kernel built with i2c support, the NVIDIA Linux graphics driver will automatically depend on the i2c-core.ko kernel module; as Lonni said, i2c-core.ko is an in-tree driver module. You can check the output of `dmesg` to determine why it fails to load on your system. Please also see http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree8...ppendix-f.html.
