help needed - geforce 6200, LG L203WT 20 inch LCD monitor, openSUSE 10.2
 

I am unable to get maximum resolution on my monitor of 1680 X 1050.

I have been seeking help at linuxforums.org need-help-cant-get-max-resolution-nvidia-lg-20in-monitor , and I've tried everything suggested at nvidia-installer-HOWTO. I have already searched here for keywords '6200 1690 1050' and 'l203wt' and '1680X1050 6200'

I bought a XFX GeForce 6200 with 20 inch wide screen LG monitor L203WT. sax2 correctly identifies my monitor and native resolution, but NVIDIA server configuration in SUSE shows maximum resolution of only 1280X1024. Can anybody help me?

/var/log/Xorg.0.log.bz2 - This file shows an interesting thing about resolution 1680X1050.

Please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 6

and then generate and attach a new nvidia-bug-report.log.

Please try adding the following option to the Device section of xorg.conf:
Option "ModeValidation" "NoDFPNativeResolutionCheck"

Thanks. Are '#comments' allowed in xorg.conf? Also, is xorg.conf case-sensitive?

It worked! Wonderful! Thanks for your help.

Another problem arose when using the driver from nvidia.com. I am not getting 3d support. WHen I start sax2, I see the following pop-up message

Message: 3D acceleration not supported
Sax2 cannot offer activation of the 3d subsystem because your graphics card/driver doesn't support 3d

I did not get this message when using the SUSE RPMs. Should I just try the RPMs instead, and add in the xorg.conf options line you suggested above? the driver from nvidia.com is more uptodate (higher version #) so I think I would prefer to use it. Perhaps there is a 'hack' to get 3d working correctly?

You should contact SUSE to inquire how they're testing for 3D support.

Thanks. I will post a message on a SUSE forum. Is there anything I should do in the meantime? Any modifications to xorg.conf I need to make to get 3D working? Why doesn't the driver from nvidia.com have 3D support OOTB (out of the box)?

NVIDIA's driver has full 3D acceleration support "out of the box". Other than SUSE's error, why do you believe that you do not have 3D acceleration?
