NVidia GeForce 7600 GS opensuse 10.2

1 Attachment(s)
Hello,

I just finished installing the following packages and the drivers still don't seem to work. Below is what i get when i try to run nvidia-settings:

Packages installed:
nvidia-gfx-kmp-default-1.0.9639_2.6.18.8_0.3-0.1
x11-video-nvidia-1.0.9639-0.1

ERROR: NV-CONTROL extension not found on this Display.
ERROR: Unable to determine number of NVIDIA GPUs on ':0.0'.
ERROR: Unable to determine number of NVIDIA Frame Lock Devices on ':0.0'.
ERROR: Unable to determine number of NVIDIA VCSCs on ':0.0'.

and i did run the nvidia-xconfig prior to running this.

Also for some reason after i install the drivers when i run sax2 -p i still see the nv driver instead of the nvidia driver.

Chip: 0 is -> NVidia GeForce 7600 GS 14:00:0 0x10de 0x0392 AGP nv
Chip: 1 is -> ATI ES1000 515E 16:13:0 0x1002 0x515e AGP radeon

Can someone please help me in getting this to work. Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you.

According to your bug report, you're using the 'nv' X driver, not the 'nvidia' X driver. Thus, the output that you're seeing from nvidia-settings is expected.

Re: NVidia GeForce 7600 GS opensuse 10.2

Is there a way to manually change that so it forces it to use the nvidia driver instead of the nv driver.

I tried running:

sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia

And then i get this output

SaX: initializing please wait...
SaX: access to your display has been granted
SaX: ups lost card during probing... abort
SaX: something went wrong while X was called with -probeonly
SaX: try to call 'sax2 -p' and select a single device ?

All problems with sax should be reported to SUSE.

I just tried doing a manual install and when it asked to run nvidia-xconfig i said yes. When i reboot i get a blue screen that says there is an error with my xconfig, here are some of the errors that i get when i view the output:

_XSERVTransSocketOpenCOTSServer: Unable to open socket for inet6
_XSERVTransOpen: transport open failed for inet6/linux-hostname:0
_XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: failed to open listner for inet6

Please generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log which captures this problem.

According to your bug report, X is segfaulting.

Have you verified that you're using the latest BIOS?
Did the 7600GS ship with this Dell system, or did you add it?

Re: NVidia GeForce 7600 GS opensuse 10.2

Yes i am using the latest bios from dell.

No i added this card separately.

I'm not sure what else to suggest, as I do not have a Dell Poweredge server here to test this.

However, from what I've read some rackmount servers do not always deal with PCI-E graphics cards well, as they're not qualified for that usage scenario.

Re: NVidia GeForce 7600 GS opensuse 10.2

Well the weird thing is that when i first installed it everything worked fine, and i haven't made any changes or installed anything new to it. I just rebooted it and then everything just stopped working, not sure what rebooting may have caused but now i can't get it to work anymore.

I'm not sure what to suggest other than backtracking through what may have changed.
