kernel-2.6.22 + nvidia-diver-any + quake4 = reboot

Hi

I own a presario v6000 (dv6139eu exactly) with many issues that i been
solving since fc6
but with this one, I`m clueless.

I installed and played quake4 (it is a great game!!), but when I
updated the kernel to 2.6.22
to fix some issues like random crashes, freeze, the graphics turned
ugly so I went back to 96xx legacy nvidia driver version and continued
playing till I finished the hole game (several sessions) but today
with the same driver, the same kernel, the same game, it just reboots,
with googleearth does the same and with mplayer did the same once, I'm
not using beryl or compiz, xorg.conf is well configured

btw: dont buy compaq-hp laptops to run linux

The Composite extension is enabled by default in Fedora7. I'm afraid that 1.0-9639 is no longer supported for your GPU. If you'd like assistance, please install 100.14.11 and see if the older problems persist.

You should also verify that you're using the latest BIOS.

Thanks,
Lonni

well Lonni, you are quite fast answering thank you very much, the latest version you just mentioned eats all my ram, I think it ate my sandwich too, cant find it.

I will install the latest driver again for testing purposes.

How are you determining that the driver is eating your RAM, and not something else with a memory leak?

I' m back with new updated driver, it reboots while loading a saved game (quake4-smp). well I know because with the older driver doesnt do it, but tha is not the issue now, the rebooting is the problem.

it is weird because I run another game neverwinternights just fine

btw: new report included

I had an odd problem with quake4 in smp while running full screen. The computer would just freeze while loading.
The solutions I found was to create an extra X server, config quake to not run in fullscreen mode and set custom width to 1 pixel larger then the required resolution (height the same).
You may have another problem thought.

With Quake4 I have to use:
Code:

Option "NoFlip" "True"
