Fox Announces and Dates 29 Blu-ray Titles

While Paramont is busy selling out, Fox is busy progressing on Blu-Ray exclusive releases. Some nice releases coming out, I still think Starz Entertainment has an even attracting release list 4th quarter (horror movies galore):

Quote:

Fox and MGM have revealed 29 upcoming Blu-ray releases. Included are 19 catalog titles from Fox and MGM, and 10 new release titles to be sold day-and-date with their DVD releases. These titles include 'Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer' and 'Live Free or Die Hard'. The remainder of the day-and-date titles is expected to be announced shortly, as well as specs for each release.

Fox has also promised to release one state-of-the-art Blu-ray title per month, with features never before seen on a Blu-ray release. These titles will take full advantage of BD-Java and BD-Live (Q4) to deliver a unique movie experience. December's 'Independence Day' will feature a "Alien Scavenger Hunt" where viewer have to guess the correct number of aliens in a scene to unlock hidden content.

If you geniuses were actual BD fans you'd know that Fox has been VERY bad about keeping their promises with regards to their releases and is the well established WORST "BD exclusive" studio when it comes to actually releasing movies. Keep panic trolling though, I'm loving it.

Oh, and you bashing Paramount for selling out, then praising Fox....who sold out.....comedy gold.

If Universal came out and said "Hi, we're going to BD exclusively" I would say that flat out SUCKS, not try and downplay it, the way you... a fanboy... are doing.

Admit it, it's NOT good for BD.

He's actually right. Virtually all of these titles were already announced for a first-half 2007 release in January... which never happened, of course:

Fox is simply reannouncing what they announced in January and never delivered.

IMO the best bet at burning will be with one of the upcoming HD DVD burners. No need to worry about standalones not playing BDMV content or not playing BD-R at all; if you didn't hear about that, do some research - newer BD players are crippled when it comes to playing back recorded discs due to piracy concerns. The HD DVD burners will be cheaper, too - and you can transcode everything that was on Blu-Ray to HD DVD with the right software! All standalone HD DVD players will play your content without issue, which is far from the case with the mess of DRM we see on Blu-Ray. Not to mention you won't have to worry about security concerns with executables w/ BD+ Advanced Countermeasure.

This drive was announced earlier in the year, and was delayed - but is now apparently on track for release this fall:

Well seeing as how Blu-Ray is currently carrying a strong momentum in the format war with many major retailers favoring Blu-Ray, recent price drops on Blu-Ray players cutting the line between price differences with HDDVD and outselling 2-1 against HDDVD, it feels more like anything as a sellout for Paramont/Dreamworks to go exclusive with HDDVD at the moment, if this were done six months then then the circumstances would be different

BTW, confirmed it was a payout to hold Paramont exclusive to HDDVD

Quote:

The NY Times has confirmed via two Viacom executives, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, that Paramount has received a $150M pay-off to support HD DVD exclusively for a period of 18 months. The $150M is comprised of cash and future marketing deals. Also re-confirmed is that the deal includes no films directed by Steven Spielberg.

The year-to-date sales total of ALL Blu-ray AND HD DVD discs combined in total sold less than 300 on standard DVD did in one week. "2:1" ratio doesn't mean much when you are selling such a small amount. It's like saying General Motors is dominating Ford because they sold 200 cars this year versus 100 Ford cars - all the while Honda is selling 1,000,000 cars in the same time period. As we can all see, the dynamics of the war can change at anytime when the numbers are so small.

Did you think Sony was paying for Fox & Disney's exclusive BD support in UMD discs?
