6800GT Temperatures?

My card is running at 65-69C idle. When under full load it runs around 84-86C.

I got the readings from ntune. Was wondering if this is normal cause my card locked up a few times the other day while playing WOW over a few hours time. It's been pretty stable ever since.

65 is a little high for idle. when i had my 6800gt it ran 50-60 idle depending on ambient temp. and 60-75 on load.

anyway. yes it does seem a little high

How long have you had the card? If for a while now, then remove the card and remove the top plate covering the fan/heatsink and I'll bet you find dust clogged in the fins around the fan. This is a common problem with the 6800GT and yes, I used to own one.

Listen to slippe, 55 is the norm for me. 65+ when the fan is caked with dust.

I kind of miss the days when highend GPU's were single slot and didn't go above the 40's idle with just average cooling.

Maybe this is what caused my 6800 gt to do this, but I've already recycled it.

It could be dying. Maybe it's not, but that's how mine was over a year ago.

Re: 6800GT Temperatures?

The 6 and 7 series cards didn't have the best cooling. The little fans were terrible. I'd suggest getting a VF900 or something similar, plus some memory heatsinks. I had one on my eVGA 7900GT CO SC and it kept my card very cool with hardly flux in idle to load temps.

Re: 6800GT Temperatures?

Thanks. It helped by about 6-7C for both idle and load. I guess your right about the fan and heat sinks they're not the greatest.
