RealTime kernel / ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'

I am trying to install 100.14.19/x86-64 for a real-time kernel. I get the following error message in /var/log/nvidia-installer.log:

ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This happens most
frequently when this kernel module was built against the wrong or
improperly configured kernel sources, with a version of gcc that differs
from the one used to build the target kernel, or if a driver such as
rivafb/nvidiafb is present and prevents the NVIDIA kernel module from
obtaining ownership of the NVIDIA graphics device(s).

Prior to runnining the nvidia install script, I reset the CC var to point to the compiler used to build the kernel, but still get this error. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
CD

AFAIK the nvidia module doesn't support realtime kernels.

I am not sure what "support realtime kernels" means... but I know that the nvidia driver can load and run under FSMLabs Carrier Grade Real Time Linux. We have a parallel rendering system doing just that. Now.. the rendering isn't done in a real-time process...but that's ok for me.

Ya know, I had the same inexplicable problem once and after tons of screwing around figured out that

/lib/modules/2.6.23.xxxx/modules.alias

had been incorrectly modified somehow. Some memory register 'er something was different than it was before I ran the NVidia setup program. I changed it back (since I had backups!) and it worked fine after that. Scary error though. That error message had me downloading gcc and kernels and all kindsa bananas.
