RealTime kernel / ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'
I am trying to install 100.14.19/x86-64 for a real-time kernel. I get the following error message in /var/log/nvidia-installer.log:
ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This happens most frequently when this kernel module was built against the wrong or improperly configured kernel sources, with a version of gcc that differs from the one used to build the target kernel, or if a driver such as rivafb/nvidiafb is present and prevents the NVIDIA kernel module from obtaining ownership of the NVIDIA graphics device(s). Prior to runnining the nvidia install script, I reset the CC var to point to the compiler used to build the kernel, but still get this error. Any suggestions? Thanks, CD |
Re: RealTime kernel / ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'
AFAIK the nvidia module doesn't support realtime kernels.

Re: RealTime kernel / ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'
I am not sure what "support realtime kernels" means... but I know that the nvidia driver can load and run under FSMLabs Carrier Grade Real Time Linux. We have a parallel rendering system doing just that. Now.. the rendering isn't done in a real-time process...but that's ok for me.

Re: RealTime kernel / ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'
Ya know, I had the same inexplicable problem once and after tons of screwing around figured out that
/lib/modules/2.6.23.xxxx/modules.alias had been incorrectly modified somehow. Some memory register 'er something was different than it was before I ran the NVidia setup program. I changed it back (since I had backups!) and it worked fine after that. Scary error though. That error message had me downloading gcc and kernels and all kindsa bananas. :afro: |
