Problems with Mandrake and NVidia drivers.....

I'm a long time Windows User and a Linux Ultra-Newbie....running a dual-boot with Windows ME and Linux Mandrake 8.2

I'm having a really wierd problem with Mandrake 8.2 and the Nvidia drivers, trying to run a GeForce4 Ti 4200 this is what i did...

1. got NVchooser.sv
2 downloaded the right RPMs, installed them...
3 Configured XF86Config-4
4 ran xf86cfg to be sure everything was set,
5 rebooted into X

and....

Nothing Happened.

I checked to make sure the Nvidia Driver and AGPCart was set up in Modules.conf, rebooted X again and still nothing.

No NVidia Logo.
No Open GL.
Just normal Xwindows.

Im confuzed as to how the heck this could have happened, since everything is configged right. Ive cant play TuxRacer, or run $glxinfo or $glxgears...something has to be wrong. I dunno how to post my XF86Conf-4 file, but this is what happens when i try to run $glxinfo and $glxgears

[root@localhost root]# glxinfo

[root@localhost root]# glxgears

Anyone know what to do here, or how to post my XF86Config-4 file?

i have mandrake 8.2, let me tell you. it is a real pain to get it to work...lol...

okay here is what you're going to have to do (i'm recalling this from memory so hopefully this is everything)

first open your xf86 config file and make sure the driver says nvidia instead of nv

next, find nv_checker.sh
it's on the website somewhere..
it's a script that will do a diagnostic of your setup.

you are going to be missing modules /dev/nvidia1 - /dev/nvidia3

you're going to have to create them, details are in nv_checker.sh

once you've done that, you should reboot, and reinstall the GLX driver, then recompile mesa too just to be safe..after that it should work..if you still have problems you can catch me icq 19934257

hope that helps, later.

(ps run nv_checker.sh as root or it might not properly diagnose your system)
