Terrible! Now I see on other forums that they have chosen to break the standard.
When Linux is ever to break through as a desktop operating system that can be maintained by non-specialists, this is not the way to go :-(
Having a standards base that is invariant between distributions and can be relied on when distributing applications and drivers, and when writing installation docs, is an absolute requirement.
