I spend the last 3 days researched to find out what the UK marketshare of VHS and Betamax was back in early day and the current US marketshare of HD-DVD and Blu-ray.

In 1980 Betamax had ruled the whole UK market long before VHS came then Betamax's marketshare started to declined rapid every month when VHS came on sale and in 1983 VHS captured 70% of UK market while Betamax held 30% but one year on in 1984 VHS increased the marketshare to 75% and Betamax marketshare declined to 25%. In 1985 all retailers recognised there are huge market for VHS as Betamax marketshare still continued to declined rapid below 20% and UK retailers declared VHS the winner of VCR format and then all Betamax VCRs was sold at big discounts and vanished from the face of UK high street stores forever, in 1986 Betamax marketshare was declined very fast to 7.5% as VHS had 92.5% of UK market.

I checked many websites for US sales rank for both HD-DVD and Blu-ray, they all the same. According to DVD Empire, this month Blu-ray accounted 57.84% and HD-DVD had 42.16%. It was a huge change since last year when HD-DVD had 59.66% and Blu-ray accounted 40.34% of US marketshare. HD-DVD lost 17.5% of share now and it still continue to decline, cheap HD-DVD players like $199 HD-DVD addon for Xbox 360 really do not help boost HD-DVD. If HD-DVD continue to decline throughout to end of 2007 then Blu-ray format could account over 70% of US market.
Porn chooses HD-DVD, threfore HD-DVD win!
