Well I've succesfully been able to install the 2.6.20 kernel with the latest drivers by disabeling the following in the .config file:

CONFIG_HIGHPTE (and/or CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT) and CONFIG_PARAVIRT

Zander thanks a lot this worked for me!

I'm now trying out KVM
