A "string" in C is implemented as a null-terminated array of characters.

So an array of strings in C would be an array of arrays, or an array of pointers to arrays.

[0]---->[a][b][c][/0]
[1]---->[1][2][3][4][/0]
[2]---->[b][d][a][/0]

Something like that.

You're actually doing flat C, not C++?
