Hmm...I'm going to be installing a Zalman CNPS9500AT hopefully tonight assuming my new Lian-Li case arrives as expected...perhaps I'll try out putting a dot of AS5 in the middle of the CPU and letting the heatsink spread it. I've always spread it using a razor in the past, but I've always felt that was a huge PITA.
Sorry about your temps, steve. I hope you get it figured out (and that I don't experience something similar...)
EDIT: And I should say...I've got my CPU up to 3.0GHz and I'm idling around 50 (sometimes a bit lower, depending on the room temp) and it never gets above 60C at full load. That's just using the stock Intel heatsink, but I'm only at 1.3v.
