Default Trouble with nVidia + USB Audio

My System:
Dell Inspiron XPS M1710
Intel 945g chipset
Intel Core Duo 2.16ghz
1 gig DDR2 667mhz
nVidia 7900gs (most recent drivers)
Ubuntu Edgy Eft

I have kind of low hopes of getting this fixed judging by lack of results from Googling, but I figured I would try here.

I have an M-Audio Transit soundcard. It is an external, USB card. I essentially use it as a 44.1khz transport to an outboard DAC, but I digress. My point is that the firmware must be loaded before the card works. I have this working via madfuload. I'm using the most recent version (1.2) and kernel 2.6.20-rc4.

Whenever I do something involving high CPU usage, then static goes crazy. But not always. For instance, updating my Amarok DB of 16k tracks does nothing. But moving a transparent gnome-terminal makes crazy static. USB audio is pretty well established now on Linux and when I use the 'nv' driver instead of 'nvidia,' everything goes away.

Suggestions?
