Exclamation help nvidia.ko weirddd

I've been trying to install NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9631-pkg1.run for at least 2 weeks, i just cant, nobody could help me, so i hope you will be "the" forum

here i go:

mi problem is all about this:

ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This happens most
frequently when this kernel module was built against the wrong or
improperly configured kernel sources, with a version of gcc that differs
from the one used to build the target kernel, or if a driver such as
rivafb/nvidiafb is present and prevents the NVIDIA kernel module from
obtaining ownership of the NVIDIA graphics device(s).

Please see the log entries 'Kernel module load error' and 'Kernel
messages' at the end of the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for
more information.
-> Kernel module load error: insmod: error inserting './usr/src/nv/nvidia.ko':
-1 No such device

first of all, i have to tell you iíve read all forums you can imagine, including this one, and i've done millions of things

i know all about xorg.conf, "glx", "#dri", etc, etc

i used to have the latest K7 kernels

i now have the latest 386 kernels (thought the problem was the K7 kernel, but it wasnt)

o obviously have the same gcc version, although i tried using gcc 3.4 and didnt work either..

the only way i can have my graphics is using "nv" (not "nvidia")

my Geforce 4 mx400 agp 8x is not a LEGACY card

I'm using Ubuntu 6.06 dapper drake

i even tried ENVY (see google), which is a scrip that automaticly installs everything you need in order to have your video card working properly, but it failed again (at nvidia.ko)

i mailed the guy who wrote the script and he couldnt help me

i dont know what else to do, i usually try to solve my problems on my own but this time i just couldnt, hope you can help me
