Works fine for me, as far as general desktop performance goes. Better than the closed driver actually, since it doesn't to have the strange "UI lag" performance bug that the closed driver currently suffers from on my system.
My hardware is an ASUS 8800GTX on a dual Opteron 270 with 4 gigs of RAM. Distro is Fedora Core 6, 64 bit.
Now back to the laggy 9755 driver, because snappier UI-drawing notwithstanding, I do need the 3d and Xv... ;(
EDIT: Small addendum - console went black when exiting out of X. Fortunately, I'd edited my xorg.conf beforehand, and typing "startx" blind brought me back into X with the closed driver. Ctrl-Fx-ing now gives a readable console but with horisontal lines of random "noise".
