The fact is the base on my heatsink is concave. My room is kept at around 72F. I have to gob on the thermal grease just so the heatsink contacts the base at all. If I spread it thin, my PC shuts off before it reaches windows because theres literally no contact between the CPU and the heatsink.
Oops, I missed that post at the bottom of the last page. I'd trying lapping it, although that may make it impossible to RMA it if you don't get the desired results. If I was in your position I'd return it and pick up the Tuniq or RMA it and use the stock cooler until your replacement arrives.
