That then led to buying the HD DVD addon since I wanted to be able to purchase any hi-def movie. I really don't see how getting a hi-def player in someone's home has a downside. It seems to me that it should help usher in the hi-def era, not hinder it.
The prob I see is that while its a good idea for the hardcore gamers + techheads, what average family is going to spend $600 on a videogame console. PS3 may do a lot of things but in the end it will be considered a videogame console by the average family in the US. So, while it may be adopted by gamers and tech heads, the average family may very well pass on the PS3 for the cheaper Wii and 360 - especially when 360 offers a bigger library with thus far the same or superior graphics in most cases. While hardcore gamers make up a portion of the sales, they dont make up the bulk of them in the long run.
