Default status of hdtv overscan via component outputs?

Seems this has been a problem since at least 2005. I've read the windows drivers have had some form of overscan compensation for qiute some time, but linux users don't get much in the way of options. I'd be perfectly content to run with custom modelines, but the drivers don't accept them when running with a TVStandard of 1080i. The next highest resolution to 1920x1080 that works is 1280x1024, but obviously this mode doesn't fill the entire screen.

A small amount of overscan is desirable, but the amount of overscan the nvidia drivers give in hd modes is too much.

Any chance we will see overscan shift or underscanning in the linux drivers in the next year?
