I see some but not much difference in Beryl between Auto and Copy with all other settings being Auto. I ran glxgears on Kubuntu 7.04 x86-64 against both configurations:

Code:
Render Path = Auto
bob@soli-deo-gloria:~$ glxgears -info
GL_RENDERER   = GeForce 8800 GTS/PCI/SSE2
GL_VERSION    = 2.1.0 NVIDIA 97.55
GL_VENDOR     = NVIDIA Corporation
...lots of stuff...
78376 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15675.043 FPS
79176 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15835.151 FPS
79202 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15840.243 FPS
79183 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15836.514 FPS
79244 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15848.363 FPS
79198 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15839.470 FPS
79135 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15826.955 FPS
79155 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15830.991 FPS

Render Path = Copy
bob@soli-deo-gloria:~$ glxgears -info
GL_RENDERER   = GeForce 8800 GTS/PCI/SSE2
GL_VERSION    = 2.1.0 NVIDIA 97.55
GL_VENDOR     = NVIDIA Corporation
...lots of stuff...
75273 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15054.446 FPS
75325 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15064.871 FPS
75295 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15058.578 FPS
75343 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15068.540 FPS
75333 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15065.889 FPS
75297 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15058.769 FPS
75352 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15070.268 FPS
The drop in FPS is about 5% with Copy on the 8800GTS. Of course, glxgears probably isn't using TFP much for the test and, as we all know, isn't a benchmark. Visually, though, I cannot discern a significant difference. I'm sure the relative loss will vary somewhat by card and their individual drivers.
