I checked the AGP options in BIOS. There is no option to alter the rate. However, it worked fine with Ubuntu 6.10, and with Windows XP SP2 so I'm doubting that simply changing the OS and video driver version would bring this degree of corruption on.

I did try changing the BIOS video memory caching from USWC (Uncacheable Speculative Write Combination) to UC (Uncached) and it definitely made things much, much worse. So USWC is a better option.

Everything I'm seeing seems to me to be a symptom of some kind of buffer/cache dirty-bit flag not being updated or honoured at the right time.
