I have no problems following the instructions to compile the driver. However, what steps must be taken to enable direct rendering? I tried installing non compatible nvidia drivers and writing over the modules with the compiled ones; but that just resulted in segmentation faults in glxgears, etc.

It'd be great if someone could post a short blurb about how they managed to get direct rendering active (as many people are using distros like gentoo along with beryl/xgl under xen).
